Honda Cars India launched the second-generation Amaze yesterday. The new Amaze is a completely new car and is many times more modern than the earlier version. Akin to the previous model, the new Amaze rivals the very popular Maruti Dzire. The new Amaze comes with some segment-first features like a CVT for both the engine variants along with cruise control and paddle shifts. However, we have compared the new 2018 Honda Amaze with the Maruti Dzire to see if the new car from Honda can outclass the sub-4-meter Maruti sedan.

New 2018 Honda Amaze vs Maruti Dzire – Price Comparison

Maruti Dzire Prices-

  • Petrol – Rs 5.56 lakh to 7.73 lakh
  • Diesel – Rs 6.66 lakh to 8.43 lakh

Honda Amaze Prices-

  • Petrol – Rs 5.60 lakh to 7.99 lakh
  • Diesel – Rs 6.69 lakh to 9 lakh

The new Honda Amaze has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 5,59,900. This price is only for the first 20,000 customers and is slated to be increased in near future. However, right now, the Amaze is only slightly pricier than the Dzire. That said, the Amaze holds a significant price advantage over the Dzire if you compare the prices of the Dzire ZXI+ (Rs 7,95,999) and Amaze V petrol (Rs 7,57,900). The AMT-equipped Dzire petrol, on the other hand, is at least Rs 40,000 cheaper than the CVT-equipped Amaze petrol.

If you look at the diesel variants, the Amaze is slightly costlier than the Dzire. However, the Dzire ZDI+ (Rs 8.96 lakh) is much costlier than the Amaze VX diesel (Rs 8.68 lakh). Again, the scale tilts in the Dzire’s favour if you compare the automatic variants. The diesel-powered Dzire AMTs are at least Rs 49,000 cheaper.

Both the compact sedans come with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. While the petrol engine of the Amaze offers slightly higher power, it is slightly lower in terms of peak torque output. On the other hand, if you talk about the diesel, the Amaze has a clear advantage over the Dzire. It is considerably more powerful and even offers slightly more torque. Both the petrol and diesel engines of Dzire and Amaze offer manual and automatic transmissions. In terms of the diesel automatic, the Dzire ends up enjoying much higher power and torque outputs than the Amaze. For the CVT variant, the diesel engine of the Amaze has been de-tuned to produce 20 PS and 40 Nm lesser. This makes it only slightly more powerful than the Dzire diesel AMT. Moreover, the torque output is 30 Nm lower than what the Dzire offers.

New 2018 Honda Amaze vs Maruti Dzire – Mileage Comparison

Maruti Dzire Mileage

The fuel efficiency of a mainstream car goes on to play a huge role in its success. No surprise, then, that a part of the Dzire’s great success can be attributed to the high fuel mileage it delivers. Both the manual and automatic variants of the Dzire offer 22 kmpl. The diesel variants of the Dzire offer 28.4 kmpl. In comparison, the manual petrol variant of the Amaze offers 19.5 kmpl while the CVT variant offers 19 kmpl. The manual diesel engine variant offers 27.4 kmpl while the CVT offers 23.8 kmpl. New 2018 Honda Amaze vs Maruti Dzire – Features Comparison

The latest Honda Amaze offers far more features than the outgoing version. The top-end variant gets features like 15-inch alloy wheels, rear parking camera and sensors, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 7.0-inch floating Digipad 2.0 infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a height-adjustable front seat. All the variants get standard safety features like front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and reverse sensors. The Dzire gets most of these features. However, the automatic variants of the Dzire, unlike that of the Amaze, don’t offer paddle-shifts. Also, the Dzire also misses out on bits like cruise control and CVT.

New 2018 Honda Amaze vs Maruti Dzire – Overall

As you can see, the Dzire enjoys an edge over the Amaze in terms of pricing and mileage. In terms of specifications, the Amaze is slightly better. Also, the Amaze offers some first-in-segment features like a CVT, paddle shifters, and cruise control. Hence, those looking for a slightly more premium car and are ready to live with a slightly lower mileage can choose the Amaze over the Dzire. However, the Dzire is for the price conscious buyers who want to benefit from most of the features that the Honda Amaze offers without spending as much on buying and running costs.
