>BMW will showcase the 8 Series convertible at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month
>Will be available with a long list of standard and optional comfort features, and two engine options
A few months after the 8 Series name was resurrected by BMW, the brand has now revealed the first-ever 8 Series convertible which will hit markets in the first half of 2019.
Two model variants will make it to showroom – a BMW M850i xDrive convertible that’s powered by a V8 engine (530bhp) and the BMW 840d xDrive convertible which uses a six-cylinder in-line 320bhp diesel engine. Both versions will not only use xDrive, BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system, they will be equipped with an eight-speed steptronic sport transmission.
Unique to this body style is the open-air driving pleasure for four occupants. The electric soft-top roof has an extremely quiet operation that shuts and opens in just 15 seconds up to a speed of 50 kmph. Besides that, the soft roof has been through the scanner for shedding excess weight, minimising acoustic discomfort, and is also available in optional black or silver colours.
As usual, BMW’s design language is ever-so-present with rich exterior styling and elegantly conceived detailing that’s even more obvious when the roof is dropped. Furthermore, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system adds to the open-air music experience which audiophiles can revel over.
It also comes equipped with features such as a heat comfort package, active seat ventilation, automatic soft close function for the doors, M Carbon exterior package, glass trim, Driving Assistant Professional which includes adaptive cruise control, lane control assist and evasion aid, and night vision.
