DETROIT — The 2016 Buick Envision, a compact SUV built in China, will arrive at Buick dealerships next summer, following a North American debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
The five-passenger Envision, which slots in between the Buick Encore and Buick Enclave, will boost Buick’sSUV portfolio.
“When it goes on sale in 2016, it will play an important role in a crossover lineup that currently represents 60 percent of Buick sales in North America,” Buick said in a statement on Friday.
The debut of the Envision marks the first time that General Motors has sold a Chinese-made vehicle in the U.S.
“We’ve done some engines from China, but no full vehicles,” said Stuart Fowle, a Buick spokesman, in a phone conversation with Edmunds.
The Envision is built in Yantai, China.
Fowle said Envision pricing has not been set. It will be priced in line with SUV competitors including the Acura RDX, Audi Q5 and Lincoln MKC, he said.
The Envision is equipped with a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA has not announced fuel economy numbers yet.
Standard equipment includes 19-inch aluminum wheels, heated front seats and heated steering wheel and a Bose premium sound system.
Options include cooled front seats, a panoramic moonroof and OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in WiFi hotspot.
