Lexus is Toyota’s premium brand, and cars with a Lexus badge sell for a massive premium over those with Toyota badges. However, many Lexus cars do share parts with much cheaper Toyotas. While there’s no MPV that Lexus sells, a modifier in Thailand has given a Lexus-style treatment to a Toyota Innova Crysta MPV.
The Innova Crysta with the Lexus styling kit gets big changes at the front and rear. The single biggest design change is the addition of the trademark Lexus ‘Spindle’ grille up front that transforms the Innova’s front end. Other changes include a new bumper and front bumper inserts that significantly lower the Innova.
On the sides, there are taller alloy wheels shod with low profile tyres. The side skirts further lower the Innova Crysta’s stance, making it hug the road. At the rear, the changes are limited to a new bumper and lower lip, again lowering the stance of the Innova Crysta, making it more car-like. No mechanical changes have been made to the MPV.
While kits such as these aren’t available yet in India, we’re sure that modifiers here are already making plans of importing or building similar kits here. Usually, body kits that first make an appearance in Thailand, arrive in India a few months later. The same is likely for this kit.
In India, the Innova Crysta is the country’s best selling MPV. Toyota routinely sells 5,000-6,000 units of the MPV here, which is bought by both personal car buyers and cab operators. Renowned for its comfort and reliability, the Innova Crysta has been a super hit for Toyota right from the word go.
The MPV sold here is offered with two diesel and one petrol engine. The entry level diesel is a 2.4-litre unit, which is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The bigger diesel engine is a 2.8-litre unit, with a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The petrol engine offered on the Innova is a 2.7-litre unit, with both 6-speed manual and automatic options.
