Samsung Galaxy S8 Tipped to Sport an OLED Display With 90 Percent Screen-to-Body Ratio

In a bid to douse the fire that the Galaxy Note 7 caused, Samsung is looking to calm the situation by making its upcoming Galaxy S8 count. The ‘S’ series flagship largely expected to be unveiled in February will have some significant upgrades to lift the mood of its loyalists. The latest leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport an OLED display and will come with little to no bezel.

The Investor reports that the upcoming flagship will sport a full edge-to-edge OLED display with 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. This means that most of the front will mostly be consumed by the OLED display, and just 10 percent of it will sport metal body.

“Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio (a scale that measures space taken up by a display on the front part of a handset) reaches more than 90 percent next year,” the report states.

The shift to OLED panels is being considered by Apple on the iPhone 8 as well. At the IMD Display exhibition in Seoul, Samsung mobile engineer Park Won-sang also hinted that the company is concentrating its efforts on innovating with the display, and is investing considerable resources for this purpose. The Samsung Galaxy S8 display also expected to sport dual-curved edges, and an optical fingerprint sensor which will enable the display to read prints – thus eliminating the home button, and falling in line with the most recent report about 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone is tipped to feature a 5.5-inch 4K (2160×3840 pixels) display with pixel density of 806ppi. It is expected to be powered by the home-grown Exynos 8895 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM. The Galaxy S8 is also rumoured to come with 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel dual-rear camera setup. It is expected to sport a slick design, an improved camera, and an “enhanced artificial-intelligence service”.
