Samsung’s “Galaxy Unpacked 2016” event is just one day away, and the company is expected to showcase its next-generation flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7/Edge. We have been treated with new renders of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone ahead of the official launch on Sunday at the sidelines of the MWC in Barcelona. Additionally, Samsung’s promotional material banners have surfaced on the Internet tipping details about the the smartphones’ availability.
To start off, Android Headlines has posted a bunch of images that are claimed to show the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge (seen above) in their full glory. Looking at the latest renders, and if these turn out to be true, then one thing is very clear – both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will sport design very similar to their predecessors. In some of the images leaked, both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are measured with a ruler – giving us an idea about their dimensions.
In the meanwhile, a purported Spanish Samsung brochure has been leaked in an image by a Twitter user listing the specifications of both the high-end Galaxy handsets listed alongside details about availability. According to the leaked brochure (seen below), the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will sport 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch Super Amoled QHD displays respectively, corroborating previous leaks. The handsets are listed as powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC – which means Samsung may launch the Snapdragon 820-powered Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones in Europe – it is expected to use its own Exynos 8890 SoC in other regions The handsets pack 4GB of RAM and come with 32GB of inbuilt storage. As previously rumoured, Samsung’s new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones are also listed to support microSD card slots.
A pressure sensitive display, which can be expected to work similar to Apple’s 3D Touch, is also listed in the leaked brochure. Other features suggested by the brochure include a 3000mAh battery on the Galaxy S7 and a 3600mAh battery on the Galaxy S7 Edge. As confirmed in a teaser video recently, the brochure also lists water resistance for both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. The leaked brochure also re-confirms the March 11 availability of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones.
A separate leak claims to show the in-store banner for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge (first reported by Sammobile) mentioning pre-orders are likely to kick-off starting Sunday only. The banner says that consumers who pre-order the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge can get the handsets three days earlier than the usual delivery date, most probably March 11. The leaked banner is said to be of telecom operator Three UK.
One of the most reliable phone tipsters around, Evan Blass, has separately tipped pricing of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones ahead of Sunday’s launch. Blass hinted that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge may be priced at $699 (approximately Rs. 48,000) and $799 (approximately Rs. 55,000) respectively. An earlier report had tipped that the Galaxy S7 will come at a starting price of EUR 699.99 (approximately Rs. 53,500) for the 32GB model while the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will start at EUR 799.99 (approximately Rs. 61,000) for the 32GB model.
In other news, a bunch of 3D renders of the unannounced Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones has surfaced on the Internet. The new renders have been shared by uSwitch and OnLeaks, the images show the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge phones in their full glory.
A Zauba listing has also been leaked purportedly claiming that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will pack a 12-megapixel rear camera sensor and will also come built-in with a 1.5W speaker. The Zauba listing was first picked up by Sammobile and it’s worth mentioning that the import/ export listing usually lists devices for testing purposes only.
Some more images claiming to show the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have surfaced. In one of the leaked images (via Sammobile), both the yet-to-be-announced high-end Galaxy phones are seen in a side-by-side comparison. While the Galaxy S7 Edge has been also pictured alone with switched on display and was posted by Steve Hemmerstoffer of Nowhereelse on Twitter. The image shows the Galaxy S7 Edge with a lit-up screen and also shows the dual-edge display. Notably, the leaked images are in line with previously leaked images.
There have been reports that suggest Samsung may bundle the Gear VR headset with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge but we will have to wait for the company’s Sunday launch event to get a confirmation.
