Renault Kwid’s upcoming 1.0-litre variant is now available for pre-order at the French automaker’s dealerships across India. First showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 earlier this year, Renault is accepting bookings for the new Renault Kwid variant for a token amount of ₹ 10,000, with deliveries expected to begin by early September. It must be noted, Renault is yet to announce a launch date for the more powerful variant of the Kwid. With that said, word has it that it is likely to be launched by the end of this month.
The new Renault Kwid variant will remain largely unchanged largely, save for the new engine option, the ‘SCe’ badge, and perhaps a new set of alloy wheels. Though the Kwid 1.0-litre will sport no design and styling changes, it may receive new interior fabric upholstery and better quality materials for the cabin.
The standard model of Renault’s entry-level hatchback gets several segment-first features such as the all-digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity. It also comes with an optional driver side airbag on the top-of-the-line trim. However, the carmaker may offer dual front airbags and ABS on the Kwid 1.0-litre.
The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre will come powered by a new 67bhp 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Its list of primary rivals comprises names such as the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Hyundai Eon, Maruti Wagon R, and Tata Tiago. Additionally, Renault is also working an on Easy-R AMT version that will face competition from the Alto K10 AMT and the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT.
