Numeros n-First - On-Road Price, Images, Features, Range & Reviews

Introduction

Among the many new electric vehicle manufacturers emerging in India, a few standout companies truly deliver on their promotional promises. One such manufacturer is Numeros, which has just introduced its electric scooter called the n-First. With an appealing price tag, this scooter caught our eye—primarily due to its distinctive design and the influence of Shreyas Shibulal, the founder of Micelio Mobility. Numeros Motors graciously provided us with a unit of the n-First scooter for evaluation at their office in Bengaluru. Below, we present an in-depth analysis of the n-First electric scooter. The model we reviewed is the i-Max+, featuring a larger battery capacity (3 kWh) and extended range.

Initial Impressions of the Scooter + Design and Aesthetics

Numeros has smartly branded this scooter as the “First-ever female-centric” model, and it lives up to this claim with its focus on lightweight construction (weighing between 112 kg and 117 kg), a spacious floorboard, a seat height that is easy to reach, and a specific reverse-front switch offered at this price range. This thoughtful approach is noteworthy. Regarding aesthetics, the n-First is visually appealing, showcasing a round LED headlamp that is bright and effective in providing illumination. The model we received for testing came in a Traffic Red color. The paint quality, glossy finish, and overall build of the scooter felt premium. When viewed from the side, the notably large wheels (16 inches) stand out—it’s rare to find such sizable wheels on scooters, but the Numeros n-First defies conventions in this aspect. We will delve into its ride characteristics and handling with these larger wheels in the subsequent sections.

The wiring, cables, and connectors are all meticulously arranged, enhancing the scooter’s appearance. The motor of the n-First operates via a chain drive system—a feature likely to attract motorcycle enthusiasts. We received numerous live inquiries and comments from bystanders regarding the chain drive mechanism featured in this scooter.

The tail lights and indicators are equipped with LEDs, contributing to the scooter’s upscale feel. The front boasts a fully digital console that displays essential ride and trip information. In the variant being covered, n-First i-Max+, there are three modes available: Sports, Normal, and Eco. The digital console prominently shows speed, battery status, and riding modes. Additionally, the n-First includes a dedicated mobile holder at the front, allowing for easy clipping and docking of a smartphone, which is a convenient feature for riders.

Specifications

When it comes to size, the new Numeros n-First scooter has a curb weight of 117 kg for the top-tier (i-Max+) and 112 kg for the max and i-max variants. The dimensions of the electric scooter are 1979 x 686 x 1125 mm (Length x Width x Height).

Form Factor

To begin with, the n-First is mainly identified as an electric scooter. Nevertheless, its notable 16-inch wheels along with a chain drive system lend it a certain resemblance to a motorcycle.

Motor and Performance

The n-First is equipped with a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor), which has an IP67 rating, indicating it is protected against dust and can endure being submerged in water for up to one meter for 30 minutes. The motor boasts a maximum output power of 2.5kW and provides a peak torque of 34 Nm. It features a mid-drive design and connects the battery to the motor via a chain. (The power statistics discussed here pertain specifically to the upper trim n-First i-max+). The highest specification, n-Max+ Pro, can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h in Sports mode, whereas both the max and i-Max versions top out at 55 km/h.

Battery Capacity, Range, Warranty, Charging Time, and More

Now, let’s delve into the fundamental aspect of this electric scooter. The new Numeros n-First i-max+ operates on a 3.0 kWh battery. The maximum theoretical range is 109 kilometers; however, during our practical testing on real roads, we observed a range of approximately 90 kilometers under mixed conditions of Normal, Eco, and Sports modes. Achieving the 109-kilometer range is realistic only when riding exclusively in Eco mode, which is somewhat theoretical. If predominantly using Sports mode, one can expect a range of at least 70 kilometers (based on our testing in Bengaluru City). The range can vary based on the terrain type, gradient, and whether riding solo or with a passenger.

Regarding warranty, the Numeros n-First electric scooter comes standard with a three-year warranty covering 30,000 kilometers, alongside an optional extended warranty of two years available for Rs 3,500; this extends coverage to five years or 60,000 kilometers. This warranty package comprehensively covers the battery, motor, and controller under a single price point.

The top model i-max+ requires approximately 6-8 hours for a complete charge due to its larger 3 kWh battery, while the base variants can fully charge in about 6 hours, powered by a 2.5 kWh battery pack with liquid immersion cooling.

Ride Quality, Handling, Braking, and Suspension

During a three-hour test ride, the scooter demonstrated a smooth experience and maintained good stability throughout the journey. The roads were primarily well-paved (in Bengaluru), interspersed with some potholes. The scooter convincingly excelled in terms of maneuverability and handling; it was responsive and provided excellent stability while riding, largely attributed to its larger wheels. If you are accustomed to riding scooters with smaller 12-inch wheels like the Activa or Jupiter, it might take a little time to adjust.

Space and Functionality

When it comes to space, there are several hooks available at the front for conveniently attaching small bags. I managed to secure my camera bag onto one of those hooks without any trouble. Under the pillion seat, there is a bit of storage for holding small items like documents and similar essentials.

What really stood out to us was the numeric lock designed for helmets, allowing you to secure your helmet without needing to invest in a separate helmet lock or stressing over its safety when the scooter is parked.

You can also open the front seat easily. Both the front and rear seats can be quickly locked or unlocked using the key slot controller located at the front. A portable charger comes with the scooter, which can be connected easily from the front seat — the connected end has a standard three-pin plug that fits into any regular household socket for charging purposes. Numeros provides a one-meter cable for the charger.

There are numerous compartments in the front for keeping small items, including a specific USB charging port. This makes the Numeros n-First a highly functional option.

Numeros App – Software

Numeros Motors also provides a companion application (currently free) that allows you to monitor your riding habits, charging information, the riding modes utilized during your journey, range, and other important details directly from your smartphone. The app also facilitates entering your travel destination, linking you to Google Maps for navigation. This is a useful feature since it can be easily docked at the front of the scooter for navigation while on the move.
