aruti Suzuki India finally launched its much-awaited 3rd-generation WagonR on January 23. The car has been one of the best sellers in India and played a crucial role in cementing the company’s position as the largest car maker in the country.

According to Maruti Suzuki, it has sold over 22 lakh units of WagonR in India since its launch in the year 1999 and already received 12,000 bookings for the new model. The car has been a consistent performer with over 20 per cent market share, the company claimed.

The “Big New WagonR” – as termed by the company – has been priced between Rs 4.19 lakh and Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is being offered in two engine options with seven variants, comprising manual and automatic ones.

With the new WagonR all set to compete with Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago for the market share, I give you five reasons why Maruti Suzuki’s new offering could turn up the heat and gain a large chunk of customers.

Powerful engine

The 3rd-generation WagonR comes in two engine options – a three-cylinder 1.0-litre K10B engine producing 67 bhp at 5,500 and 90 Nm torque at 3,500 rpm and a four-cylinder 1.2-litre K12M engine good for 82 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm torque at 4,200 rpm. Both the engines are powerful and responsive. The two engines also get a five-speed manual transmission with an option for a five-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift).

Ample room

There is a reason why the new car has been christened as “Big New WagonR”. Maruti Suzuki has increased its length (3,655 mm), width (1,620 mm) and wheelbase (2,435 mm), making the cabin more spacious. One very important point to be noted here is that there is a boot space of 341 litres in 2019 WagonR, which is bigger than that of Baleno’s 339-litre boot.

Better safety

As the new WagonR has been developed on Maruti Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, the car is more stable, strong and safe. Features like driver-side airbag, ABS (Antilock Breaking System) with EBD (Electronic Breakforce Distribution), front seat belt reminder and rear parking sensors are standard across all variants. Also, high tensile steel has been used in this car, improving the overall safety, rigidity and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) performance.

Premium looks

The new WagonR features dual-split headlamps, freshly designed grille and an all-new bumper, giving the car a bold look. The tail lamp has been tweaked and given a different shape as well. The dual-tone interiors and the 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system add to the appeal of the car.

Maruti brand

This is one of the major reasons for the success of Maruti Suzuki. People believe that this company makes very hassle free cars, which do not cast a bomb. Also, the after-sales servicing is decent as well. The cars from Maruti Suzuki’s stable also fetch handsome resale amount. All this has made people develop a never-ending trust in this brand.
