Maruti Suzuki has updated its entry-level hatchback, the Alto 800, which has been India’s best-selling car for 15 consecutive years. The car now comes with enhanced safety features and a refreshed front-end design. Also, the engine is now BS-VI compliant, nearly a year before the regulation being mandated. This is the second major update to this generation model. Up front is a new black grille and sharper looking headlamps. This comes along with a newly designed bumper with a trapezoidal air dam.
A close look reveals that there are no fog lamps this time. Also, Maruti Suzuki has dropped the ‘800’ moniker from the ‘Alto 800’ badge.
Inside the cabin is a new dashboard design, which shares cues with the Alto K10. This brings in new AC vents and a three-spoke steering wheel from its Alto K10 sibling.
Another refreshing update comes in the form of a new instrument cluster. This simple, yet, functional speedometer is part analog and part digital, also borrowed from the Alto K10.
While air-conditioning, power steering and front power windows are only available from the Lxi trim onwards, refreshing dual tone interiors and seats are standard across variants.
Furthermore, the top Vxi trim also gets central locking and keyless entry apart from the features from other variants. The latter feature was missing in the predecessor.
One more change in the new Alto is the introduction of a new music system with Bluetooth connectivity. This Smart Play Dock is designed for easier access to music, calls, navigation and more.
The 798cc petrol engine has the same power output like the pre-facelift model, but now comes with upgraded hardware and software to comply with the upcoming norms.
The prices of the new Alto start at Rs 2.93 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the STD variant, and go up to Rs 3.71 lakhs for the top-end Vxi trim. The mid-spec Lxi trim is priced at Rs 3.5 lakhs.
