Maruti Suzuki India has recently launched a new special edition Swift based on the entry level LXI and LDI variants. Christened as the Swift DLX edition, these particular models come with few additional offerings over the feature list of the aforementioned base variants. Launched at a starting price of 4.54 lakh for the petrol variant and 5.95 lakh for the diesel trim (ex-showroom, Delhi) both the models will only be available in Delhi for now.
In terms of feature additions, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift DLX edition comes with an extended equipment list that includes – Bluetooth and USB connectivity with speakers, all four power windows, central locking, fog lamps, and blackened pillars among others. These are features that customers do not get as standard in the base variants of the Swift. In addition, the car continues to offer the same features that you get in the base variants like – 60:40 split seats, electrical power steering, tilt adjustable steering wheel, optional ABS with EBD and airbags and more.
Mechanically the car remains unchanged and continues to be powered the same 1.2-litre K-Series VVT petrol engine and a 1.3-litre DDiS motor. While the petrol mill is capable of producing 83bhp and develops 115Nm of peak torque, the oil burner is good for 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
While Maruti Suzuki has been trying to keep the numbers high by introducing special editions models and discount offers, sales have been seeing a considerable drop since last few months. That said the popularity of Maruti Suzuki Swift is still intact, which has enabled it to safeguard its top position in the segment. Moreover Suzuki is currently working on the next generation Swift and Swift Sport as well, which are slated to arrive in 2017. Although, initially in India, we might only get the former.
