Honda has officially released a set of images to showcase the production version of the Avancier sport coupe SUV. Their first venture with such a body style, this car was shown in prototype form as the Concept D SUV during the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.
Firstly, the Chinese market will get the Avancier with the 2.0-litre i-VTEC petrol motor which will be offered with a nine-speed AT and torque-on-demand AWD. For now, production and launch has been limited to the Chinese market but it is expected to go global and will slot in alongside the Accord in the upper echelons of the D-segment and will be their contender for the crossover market. It is 4.8 metres long and has a wheelbase of 2.6 metres.
The official images reveal that the production version has stayed close to the concept car by adapting all its lines as well as fascia. What have been toned down, however, are the roofline as well as the amount of external chrome. Photos of the cabin show a typical Honda design thanks to many parts being lifted from a common parts bin. This top-spec model gets leather upholstery, climate control, touchscreen infotainment system and swathes of chrome plastics spread out liberally across the cabin.
Given the growing demand for SUVs, especially where the Avancier is positioned, it seems highly possible that Honda will bring the car to the Indian market. This is likely to happen in 2018 where we can also expect them to offer it with the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor for the SUV but in a higher state of tune.
