Gionee has reportedly started sending media invites for an event on March 29 where the company is expected to unveil the W909 clamshell smartphone.
One of the biggest highlights of the unannounced Gionee W909 smartphone is said to be the fingerprint scanner and the handset is also likely to pack 4GB of RAM.
Other rumoured specifications of the Gionee W909 include a Helio P10 (MT6755) SoC and 32GB of inbuilt storage. The smartphone is likely to feature expandable storage via microSD card.
Much like Samsung’s flip phones such as W2016, the Gionee W909 is expected to pack two touchscreens, on the inside and the outside of the top half of the handset. The handset is also expected to feature a T9 physical keyboard alongside the dual touchscreen displays. On the camera front, the Gionee W909 is said to sport a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
Ahead of the official announcement, the Gionee W909 is said to be priced at CNY 3,599 (approximately Rs. 37,000) in China. Unfortunately, there is no word whether the handset will launch in more markets including India or not. The launch and pricing details were first reported by PhoneRadar.
Gionee last month at MWC 2016 unveiled its S8 flagship smartphone in Barcelona. The Gionee S8 was priced at EUR 449 (approximately Rs. 34,000) and was announced to go on sale by the end of March in Rose Gold, Silver, and Gold colours.
One of the biggest highlights of the smartphone was it featured 3D Touch pressure sensitive display, and was claimed to work same as the new iPhone models. The company said that the smartphone could sense three levels of force including touch to select an app, tap to preview the content of an app, and press to run the app. Another notable feature was that the smartphone came with ‘Dual WhatsApp’ and ‘Dual WeChat’ features, which meant users can have two instances of WhatsApp open at once, associated with different accounts.
