FreeCharge Partners ePaisa to Strengthen Offline Payment Network

Digital payments platform and wallet player FreeCharge announced Friday its partnership with Mumbai-based PoS (point-of-sale) software and payments solution provider ePaisa. The partnership will enable offline payments on ePaisa’s network spanning thousands of retailers, quick service restaurants, stores and home delivery companies in India, the company said.

Customers paying through the FreeCharge wallet will also be able to avail of offers including cashbacks and additional discounts, the company said, adding that it will also run incentives with individual merchants that come on board with ePaisa.

“ePaisa enables merchants to accept wallet payments without any Internet and with FreeCharge’s innovative ‘On the Go’ pin, there is no Internet needed by the customer as well. This is the first end to end offline acceptance mechanism and we are delighted to have FreeCharge in our fold,” said Siddharth Arora, Founder and CEO, ePaisa in an emailed statement

Commenting on the partnership, Govind Rajan, Chief Operating Officer, FreeCharge said the company aims to enable digital payments everywhere, offline and online, and is in line with its goal to be a payment OS. FreeCharge had announced its offline payment integration with McDonalds in January 2016, operational in over 200 restaurants operating in West and South Regions of India. To enable online payments, it had tied up with Yes Bank and MasterCard to launch the FreeCharge Go virtual card, on 21st January 2015, and is currently running a shopping festival to drive adoption.

Founded in 2012, ePaisa has developed a multilingual mobile-based point of sale ecosystem that enables small businesses to accept credit and debit card payments with smartphone and tablets.

Bengaluru-based Ezetap, which operates a Square-like smartphone-based payments device to accept payments on Internet-enabled smartphones had tied up with four Indian mobile wallet players – Paytm, MobiKwik, Novopay, and FreeCharge in October 2015.
