2018 BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid undergoing testing

The 2018 BMW 5 Series plug-in hybrid is currently undergoing some rigorous tests. One of the prototypes of the upcoming mid-size luxury sedan was caught soaking in the hot desert heat. The 2018 5 Series, as we know, will adopt a plug-in version and these are the clearest shots yet.

The vehicle is likely to use the same set up as in the X5 plug-in hybrid, but with greater performance and efficiency refinements. Inside, it’s apparent that the new 5 Series will adopt the same design language introduced with the 7 Series last year. A simplified iDrive and prominent LCD screens will dominate the cabin, with additions like gesture control already a given. Also, expect the overall quality to take a significant step forward from the current model.

Like the new 7 Series, the 2018 5 Series will be lighter and more rigid thanks to usage of more sophisticated materials from the new CLAR platform. We will get to know more details later this year during the likely unveil of the new 5. The plug-in hybrid version, meanwhile, is due for 2018.
