Finally, the bookings have started, the website has gone live and now it seems all ready for the launch of the much awaited premium entry level motorcycle of Mahindra, Mojo. It has been over half a decade since Mojo is out on testing and finally, the bike is set to be launched by the end of this month. Going by the looks, Mojo has a distinctive appearance with twin round shaped headlamps at front with daytime running lights placed just above them on both side. The headlamps are housed in-an integrated cowl with black colored long touring visor just above them. The front also includes a wide front tyre with full size front fender and gold colored front forks which does add presence.
Move to the side and the gold color scheme continues on its exposed steel trellis frame and swingarm at the back. The massive 21Litre fuel tank comes engraved with Mojo and Mahindra on it. The radiator fins on both sides and under-cowl further adds to the aerodynamics of the bike and suits the overall styling. The Mojo is a naked machine with single step up seat and naked chain. The twin silencers on both sides also make it one of the most visually appealing bikes in its segment and look quite sporty when seen from the back. The seat goes right till the end of the bike where it features a small LED tail lamp which easily grabs your attention along with low placed slit grab rails. The short rear fender, wide rear tyre and gap between the rear fender and tyre further enhances the sporty look of this bike.
The moment you step on the bike, you can instantly feel the superb cushioning of the seat of Mojo along with its middle placed footpegs which gives you easy, touring riding posture. The relaxed touring posture becomes even more comfortable with its single piece handlebar which comes with good quality of buttons and plastic material. The instrument panel features an analog tachometer with LED rpm indicator and blue colored LCD for its digital speedometer, fuel gauge, trip meter and clock. The new Mojo is speculated to be powered by a 299cc single cylinder, 4-valves, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine which is capable of producing a peak power and torque output of 27bhp and 30Nm respectively. The power is transferred to the rear wheel by a six-speed manual gearbox which makes sure you appropriately use the wide spread of torque amount. The healthy torque makes Mojo a very capable tourer bike which needs minimal gear shifts to be on the move even in city traffic.
The strong performance and brilliant riding dynamics become even more enjoyable due to its capable suspension and braking system which includes Upside down forks at front and mono-shock at the back. Although the bike lacks ABS, but still the bigger 320mm disc brake at front and 240mm disc brake at the back makes sure this 165kg machines stays under control even at the time of sudden braking. The superb road grip comes from its wide 110/70-17 and 150/60-17 tyres at front and back respectively. The wheelbase of 1460mm also adds to the stability of this bike on long stretches and makes it a great handler around corners as well. Keeping our road conditions in mind, Mahindra has raised the ground clearance to 175mm which makes sure you can skip major potholes and speed breakers easily.
Keeping its technical specifications, styling and features in mind, we can expect Mahindra to launch this bike between INR 1.50 lakhs-INR 1.80 lakhs making it a great value for money for its superb engine refinement and relaxed riding manners. However at this price, it still cannot justify itself if pitted against KTM Duke 390 which may win by a good price margin and may come up as a more value for money package relatively. Let us wait for the final prices of Mojo which will write its destiny in India.
