You can now stream movies and TV shows directly on a torrent website and right onto your Web browser. The Pirate Bay, one of the most popular torrent websites, has adopted Torrents Time’s technology to allow its visitors to stream the files inside a torrent with just one click.
For those unfamiliar, Torrents Time is a light plugin or extension for compatible browsers on Windowsand OS X. Once installed, it allows users to stream media files. The Pirate Bay has embedded Torrent Time’s feature into its website to allow its visitors to stream torrent files without having to download a dedicated BitTorrent client and waiting for the download to finish. Called ‘Stream It!’ the feature is currently marked as beta.
It is similar to Popcorn Time, a contentious service that allowed users to stream torrents using an app. The only difference, however, is that you don’t need a separate app as long as you have the aforementioned plug-in installed on your Web browser.
Also, much like Popcorn Time, you’re advised to install a VPN service to ensure your ISP or any other party doesn’t find you streaming content with copyright infringement issues. You can bypass the VPN selection dialogue box by clicking on the skip button, however, do note that you’re only risking exposing yourself.
Once you have bypassed or agreed to it, the website downloads some parts of the torrent file in the background and then streams it to you
The feature works on Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox among other popular Web browsers on Windows and OS X platforms. You won’t be able to play it on Microsoft Edge, as Microsoft’s new Web browser doesn’t support Web browsers plugins just yet.
“Our launch attracts so much attention that we work around the clock, both to handle the requests to be embedded on so many torrent sites and answering questions,” Torrents Time told Venture Beat. “We are certain that in no time we’ll be embedded in all torrent sites who care to move on with this evolution. We will allow everybody to watch any movie they wish from torrent sites who embed us, when they want, without having to store someone’s file on their hard disk.”
Please note that Gadgets 360 does not condone piracy and using The Pirate Bay will almost certainly be against your local laws.
