India’s second largest car maker Hyundai has planned to launch 3 all new cars this year. This includes the Styx, Kona and the Tucson Facelift. Note that all of them are SUVs or better to say, SUV bodied vehicles. Apart from these, the company will launch many other cars too like the new updated models of Grand i10, Xcent, Elite i10 and Creta. The company plans to have a car in every segment of the Indian auto market and also has set its eyes for a much higher sales goal than last year.
Talking about the upcoming cars, let’s start with the Hyundai Styx. The Korean company will probably be unveiled here by the second quarter of 2019. It has been codenamed as QXi but reports suggest that Hyundai’s new small SUV will be called Styx.
It will challenge the likes of the Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon among others in the segment. Based on the new Santro platform, it will come with three engine options. The first among them would be a 99 Bhp, 1.4-litre petrol unit, second would be an 89bhp, 1.4-litre diesel engine and lastly, the third option will be 100 Bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol.
The second vehicle that Hyundai will bring here will the long-awaited Kona SUV, which will also be the first electric vehicle by the company here. It is expected that Hyundai will launch the Kona EV here by the third quarter of this year.
It will come via the CKD route and later on will be developed locally, in order to keep prices in check. From what we know till now, the company will bring it with 2 battery pack options. One will be a 39.2 kWh battery pack that will have a range of about 310 km while the other will be a 64 kWh battery unit with a range of 480 km.
The third new car that Hyundai will launch in India this year is the Tucson Facelift. Now the Tucson hasn’t been doing very well in the market despite being a pretty decent car and the company hopes to change that with this facelift. It will come with a host of new features and equipment in order to face the competition. On the exterior, the major changes will be the new sharp grille, all LED headlights as well as new fog lamp housing.
Other changes on the exterior include new alloys, LED tail lamps among others. On the inside, the new Tucson will come with new driver-assistance features like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. There will also be a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the car will continue to be powered by the same set of engines.
