Mercedes-Benz has launched the latest generation G63 AMG in India at a price of Rs 2.19 crores (ex-showroom). It’s the second generation for this iconic SUV and has come after a long time. This is India’s entry into the G-Class range and it is offered here as one top-of-the-line models.
What’s good about it?
Well, for what it is…the G63 AMG is a lot of car! Its presence is unrivalled thanks mostly to its hybrid of old-school SUV design with the ‘let’s make a fast SUV even faster’ AMG fettling. There’s also the fact that while the exterior design makes this a ‘love it or hate it affair’ inside Mercedes has pulled out all the stops in terms luxury and comfort.
What’s not so good?
To be honest, there’s more to love and not much to hate with this new version. But in the interest of continuity, we would like to say that while there’s the 4MATIC AWD system and massive ground clearance…it’s going to be hard to hustle this car on the ‘path you should ideally not take’ thanks to those massive AMG wheels. We really wish some optional steel wheels could be fitted to take advantage of all that off-road tech and 850Nm of torque! Oh and there’s also the fact that with petrol now at an all-time high…tanking up this beast is going to be quite a bomb on your pocket…but then again if you can pay so much for a car, clearly fuel cost features low on your list of car priorities.

Did you know?
The previous generation spawned a six-wheeled version called the G63 AMG 6X6 which had six-wheels, 3 axles and extra high ground clearance. It had been derived from an Austrian army spec G-Class.
