2018 Ameo Cup Round 4: Pratik Sonawane takes pole, Dhruv pushes for championship win

The fourth and final round of the 2018 Volkswagen Ameo Cup moves to Buddh International Circuit.

• Championship leader Dhruv Mohite qualified second on the grid.

• Pratik Sonawane clocked the fastest time of 2:21:295 seconds.

The 2018 Volkswagen Ameo Cup has moved to India’s Formula 1 track – the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) – for the fourth and final round of the season. There will be two races held tomorrow.

The drivers spent the Thursday at BIC familiarising themselves with the FIA regulation compliant race track. This will be the first opportunity for most of the drivers to drive on the race track where Sebastian Vettel won three times in a row between 2011-2013. Along with that, drivers also got a free practice session on Friday.

The first timed practice session saw Pratik Sonawane setting the fastest lap around the BIC with a time of 2:22.85 seconds. The championship leader, Dhruv Mohite, admitted to having made a couple of mistakes on his fast lap that put him way down in fifth, almost eight tenths of a second off Pratik.

However, during the Qualifiers, Pratik shaved a second off his practice time, clocking a time of 2:21:295 seconds. He took pole with Dhruv starting second in the grid position for tomorrow’s race.

As far as the points table is concerned, Dhruv is leading the charts with 56 points. He is way clear of Saurav Bandyopadhyay who is closely superseded by Jeet Jhabhak. Even though Dhruv has a strong lead in the championship, the title fight is still open with all three drivers aiming for the top honours
